[0:11] Good morning. What a privilege it is for me to stand here and talk to you on the last Sunday of 2025. It's all a bit strange at this time of the year, isn't it?
[0:30] In this time, there are some times like a little bit strange, right? We've just finished the craziness of Christmas. In the Christmas of Christmas, everyone is very busy. And we're looking forward to New Year.
[0:42] But we're looking forward to New Year. We've had the hustle and bustle of family and the parties of friends. Over to the past few days, everyone is very busy. There are parties, and we're looking forward to New Year.
[0:55] We're looking forward to 2026 and all that the New Year brings. 2026. New beginnings.
[1:06] New year's resolutions. New year's resolutions. New dreams and goals and plans. There are some dreams, goals and plans. But Church, I think it would be a little bit of a mistake to just waste these in-between few days.
[1:21] But in the last seven days, we don't want to waste it. We're at the final stage now. And I think we can take the next few days to make sure we've finished well.
[1:32] Let's not sprint to the finish line without considering what God may still have in store for us.
[1:48] 2026 is a special year for me. 2025年, it will be the last year where I am just a husband, a son, and a brother.
[2:05] Don't spoil the surprise. Don't spoil it. I'm just a husband or son. 2026 is going to be different because on top of all of that, I'm also going to be a dad.
[2:17] Oh, I'm going to be a dad. Which is crazy because if you know me, I'm surprised I'm allowed to cross the road by myself. Let alone be responsible for a brand new, fresh life.
[2:39] But by the grace of God, he's blessed Cynthia and me with a little one coming soon. When is it? You don't know?
[2:51] If I get a call now, I'm leaving it up to Moxie to preach the rest of my sermon. So for my life, it's a chapter coming to a close.
[3:06] And another chapter beginning. A lot more nappies and a lot more bottles. A lot more nappies and a lot more bottles. A lot more nappies and a lot more bottles.
[3:19] So yes, a finishing well has been on my mind for a little while. Yes, how can I do a good end? I'm always thinking about this. 2025 for you might have been the best year of your life.
[3:35] To you, maybe in the past one year, it may have been a good end. It may also have been the worst. But for some people, you might have had the biggest wins at work.
[3:48] Or maybe the lowest lows with loss of loved ones. It could have been a year you would love to live once again.
[4:04] There are times, you might have been a year you would love to live once again. Or maybe one you just can't wait to forget. But that's the trouble with time, isn't it?
[4:19] You can't get it back. But the time is like this. The past is not able to get it back. So for now, let's look through the encouragement in the word. As we see Paul reflecting on his life.
[4:32] We'll see if we see Paul's kingdom. Let's see if we see Paul's kingdom. Let's see if Paul's kingdom. And let's think to ourselves, what would it look like for us to finish 2025 well?
[4:50] What are some things we should do? What are some things we shouldn't do? But before that, let's pray.
[5:04] Father, we thank you for giving us 2025. Thank you for the good times and the bad times we've gone through. Thank you that every day is a new day in Christ.
[5:23] And so is every year. May your Holy Spirit open hearts and minds as we dive into your word today. In Jesus' name, Amen.
[5:39] So thank you for the reading on 2 Timothy chapter 4. This is a bit of a special book because this chapter of Timothy may have been the last time Paul ever put pen to paper.
[5:55] This book is a special book. Maybe this book is a special book. It is that the book is written in the last book. It is written in the last book. Here we have a man responsible for over half of the books in the New Testament.
[6:09] Now, we can imagine that he has written in the last book. Here we have a man who has written to teach, to preach. Now, this one of the people who has written to teach, to preach. Now, this one of the people who has written to teach, to preach.
[6:21] He has instructed, he has disciplined. To preach, to preach. Now, in this final letter to Timothy, now, in this final letter to Timothy, now, in this final letter to Timothy, now, in this final letter to Timothy, who he considers almost like a son, he reflects on finishing well.
[6:40] This one, like his own father's son, a young man, who tells him how to keep a good good end. Listen to this, in verse 6, For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time for my departure is near.
[6:57] We look at the 6th and 7th. He says, I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Paul knows he will be reunited with his Savior very soon.
[7:19] Paul's journeys have brought him from the road to Damascus, to Jerusalem, to Ephesus, Rome, and beyond. He has crossed seas, performed miracles, been locked up in prisons.
[7:38] He has crossed seas, performed miracles, been locked up in prisons. He has crossed seas, and all the while, he has led countless people to Jesus Christ.
[7:49] But no matter what, he has led a thousand or a million people to believe in Jesus. Paul has run a very long and hard race. Paul has run a very long and hard race.
[8:01] And he knows he is about to step over the finish line. He knows he's ready to reach the end. He's ready to reach the end. So that is how chapter 4 begins.
[8:12] This is how 4章 is how to begin. In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, Paul urges one final thing of his dear friend, Timothy. The 4章 1節,保罗 says, I am in the Lord's face.
[8:25] I am in the Lord's face. So that is with the Lord's face. I am in the Lord's face. I am in the Lord's face. I am in the Lord's face. None of us are promised tomorrow. And if you had one thing to say to those that were closest to you, what would that be?
[8:38] No one has to maintain 10足 of the pressure. But if there are some things we want to to give to our love and to our love and to our love and to our love and to our love what would that be?
[8:50] Paul chooses these 3 words. Preach. Paul uses these 4 words. Preach the word. Preach the word. No. You. You. Really?
[9:04] For. No, no, no. Really, Paul? Oh, sorry. I'm sorry. But Paul is preach the word. Just preach the word. Just preach the word. All the experiences you've had, the long life, exciting life you've lived.
[9:21] You've done so many things, you've done so many things, just preach. Just preach. You. Well, yes.
[9:31] Yes. If Paul's life is finishing now or very soon, the most important thing to him has been the gospel of Jesus Christ.
[9:42] For him, nothing else has come close to the joy and privilege of knowing Christ.
[9:57] For him, nothing else has come close to the joy and privilege of knowing Christ. In fact, in an earlier letter to the Church of Philippi, Paul writes how everything else is considered garbage.
[10:10] In he wrote to Philippi's教会, the信中, he said, 万事都是分土,基督才是自保. Garbage compared to gaining Christ.
[10:22] Yes, Jesus is the most important thing. If everything else is worthless, why would Paul not want to encourage Timothy to share the only thing that has real worth?
[10:34] 如果其他所有的事情都不是那么重要的时候, 为什么保罗就是这样呢? 就是要告诉他,基督去分享耶稣基督的福音是最重要的。 It's like those pirate movies you might have seen growing up.
[10:46] 如果大家还记得要看那些海盗的电影, Just before the elderly captain dies, He gives the young sailor a treasure map. 这个船长准备要临终的时候, 于是他就拿出这个寻宝的地图.
[10:59] X marks the spot and charges him to find the buried treasure. 这里就是抹着那里, 这里就是那些寶藏在那里的了。 And in the same way, Paul is encouraging Timothy to share the treasure that is Jesus Christ.
[11:14] 保罗就是照样去提醒提摩泰, 你去分享在基督耶稣里面那种的自保。 He tells him to be prepared in season and out of season.
[11:27] 你无论得事,不得事. Being able to correct, to rebuke and to encourage. 去教导,去督责,去勸勉. Unlike the pirate's treasure, however, This isn't a secret buried under the sand on a lost island somewhere.
[11:42] 一个的自保就不是好像那些海盗电影里边, 这些寻寻的寻寻, 秘密埋藏在某些海盗里边,地下里边。 The good news is free for all to receive.
[11:58] 但是耶稣的福音是给所有的人, 给所有的人是完全免费的。 But what it does require is for people like you and me, brothers and sisters, followers of Jesus to proclaim this good news.
[12:12] 但是那些人是真的不知道的嘛, 所以需要你和我去告诉人家, 以致人可以认识耶稣基督的福音咯。 耶稣当他走完他人生的路, 准备回到天父之前, 他就向他的门头, 就给一个大家都很熟悉的一段的教导。 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
[12:46] 我们大家所熟悉的大使命, 是不是你们要去使万民作我的门徒, 奉父子圣灵的名, 给他们施洗。 Paul knows that it won't be an easy task. 保罗知道这个是不容易的一个使命来的。 He knows people will not put up with sound doctrine.
[13:02] 他知道人会厌烦真道的。 他知道人是尝试满足自己, 是不会听上帝自己的真理的。 People just want to hear, and care about what they want to hear.
[13:19] 人就好像第三节这样, 只是听一些他自己想听的, 耳朵发样就找一些的师傅。 Yeah, say what their itching ears want to hear.
[13:30] People will turn their ears away from the truth, 人会听一些无稽的言论的。 Still,Paul says, Preach the word, Timothy.
[13:43] Preach the word. 知道这一切, 保罗仍然说, 无要传道。 Not only does that mean we are to spread the gospel, But the word spoken of here is the Bible.
[13:54] 当然我们不是只是去讲这个福音, 这个word,这个道这个字就是神的话语。 Preaching is not just for the pastor on a Sunday morning.
[14:06] Yeah, so you're here. 讲道不是只是牧师讲的, 所以弟兄也可以讲的。 The Greek word for preach simply means To openly and publicly proclaim.
[14:18] 可能我们在我们的生命当中, 我們就是将神的话闯开, 告诉人家。 It doesn't just need to be formal and on stage. 不单止是主日或者崇拜聚会, 一些聚会当中站在上面.
[14:32] It can be informal in the conversation. 很多时候可能就是我们在言谈之间, 我們将上帝的话去分享给人。 Anytime you speak the truth found in this book, You are preaching the word of God.
[14:46] 我們从圣经里边, 将神的话和人分享的时候, 我們其实就是宣讲上帝的说话。 All of you, all of us that considers ourselves Christians, We should be doing this.
[14:58] 我們都是上帝的, 耶稣基督的門徒的时候, 我們就有这个责任去传上帝的道。 Brothers and sisters, Sometimes we may forget how simple the word of God can be.
[15:10] 很多时候我们会觉得, 我們會忘记了, 其實神的话是很简单的。 We often ask him to speak to us. I know I definitely do. 我們會說, 神啊,你跟我讲话吧, We pray for God's will to be done in my life, in my work, in my family.
[15:25] 神啊,你的旨意在我的生命当中, 在我的工作,在我的家庭里面被进行了。 We ask God for guidance on which school subject to take, which house to buy. 神啊,你告訴我們, 去哪間學校,買哪間屋。 We want to hear God's voice rumbling through the thunder.
[15:43] 我們希望神在雲彩里面, 淋淋淋跟我們說話。 He might say, Isaac, don't take that Italian course in university. 神啊,跟Isaac說, 你不要去大學的時候, 不要讀意大利文了。 It will be your worst grade.
[15:57] 你一定會很差的。 I didn't listen, and it was my worst grade. 真是最差的,真是。 Don't get me wrong, I believe God can speak to us, directly and indirectly.
[16:08] 不要誤會我, 我真的覺得神是會透過很多方法 跟我們說話的。 But because we hear it so much, we sometimes forget how important the simple things actually are.
[16:19] 很多次我們聽很多這些, 或者我們自己focus, 聚焦自己的時候, 我們其實忽略了, 神最關注的事。 I'm not saying we shouldn't pray about everything in life.
[16:31] 我不是說我們不需要 為我們的事情祈禱。 But when seeking the will of God, we should first look here, in the word. 我們先去看看神的話語 是說些什麼。 其實神的話語是很黑白分明的。 神對人類的那種關心。 透過耶穌基督可以有永恆的生命。 我們照顧孤兒寡婦。 我們盡心盡盡盡盡力, 愛神愛人。 He says preach the gospel.
[17:13] 是要傳道。 Preach the word. 無要傳道。 Black and white. 很清楚的,黑白分明了。 Church, as we wrap up on this year, Paul reminds us that we need the gospel of Jesus more so than ever before.
[17:28] 在今日最後這個信息裏邊 提醒我們保羅說 其實耶穌基督的救恩福音是最重要的。 It seems like the wars are around every corner.
[17:39] 今天發生,周圍哪個角落都在打仗。 Terrorist attacks hit so close to home. 恐襲也都隨時會發生。 Every week there's another article about how AI will take over the world.
[17:52] 每次看大眾傳媒, 人工智能,就要掌管這個世界了。 This broken world needs Jesus. 這個破碎的世界需要耶穌基督。 And the way it will get him is through you and me.
[18:06] 如何可以讓人認識耶穌呢? 耶穌是你和我。 Let's not wait for someone else to do it. 我們不要等人去做。 Let's not just leave it up to the pastors and preachers.
[18:17] 不要等只是牧師或者在上面講道的人。 Let's take the words seriously and follow the commands of our Lord. 我們看看神和我們今天講了什麼。 明明我們什麼。 Don't be like the man in James 1 who listens to the word but doesn't do what it says.
[18:32] 不要像雅各書第一章那個人這樣。 聽完之後就走了。 That man is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.
[18:46] 雅各書一章23至24節。 這個人聽到不行了就好像人看了鏡子,忘記了自己面目, 走了之後又忘記了自己的樣子。 So my first encouragement to you at the end of 2025 is this.
[19:00] 第一個今天跟大家分享這個題目就是 2025年這個題目是什麼呢? Preach the word. 無要傳道. Share the gospel. 分享上帝的救恩.
[19:11] Join into some of the missions-focused activities we may have here at PCBC. 在東浸裡面有一些不同的傳福音 或者一些宣教的一些事工參與吧.
[19:22] Talk to Uncle Dennis about Vanuatu. 即是Vanuatu,阿諾阿諾的短孫, 你跟 Dennis說吧. Remember or pray for our partners in OMF and their overseas missionaries.
[19:34] 我們教會多年跟這個海外基督師團一起合作的, 有很多的宣教師我們都認識的, 我們為他們祈禱吧. Or even just ask for opportunities in your day-to-day life.
[19:45] 求神給我們每天每天可以來到去, 有機會去為主作見證. You don't have to be the next Billy Graham or Francis Chan. 我們不需要好像這些很偉大的, 像葛培里啊,潘...
[20:01] 什麼凡,我忘了他的名字. Francis,這個牧師這樣. 陳,陳,陳,是. All you need to do is give a reason for this hope you find in Jesus Christ.
[20:12] 我們只是透過我們的生命, 跟別人去分享上帝給我們的盼望. Parents, preach the word around the dinner table. 父母的,你可以跟我們的兒女去宣講.
[20:24] Friends, preach the word over a WhatsApp message. 我們可以透過 WhatsApp, 去跟我們的朋友來分享. Boxing day shoppers, You can even preach the word while you wait in line at the cashier.
[20:38] Boxing day的時候,我們去買東西的時候, 我們其實可以跟旁邊那個人來分享. Ask the Lord for opportunities and courage. 求神給我們有勇氣,有機會以至我們可以為主作見證.
[20:50] For wisdom through the Holy Spirit. 求神給我們有智慧,從聖靈而來的智慧. I believe He will give you everything you need to carry out this task. 我相信神一定會給我們有足夠的恩典能力.
[21:03] The best thing you can do to finish 2025 well is to decide to live the next year as someone who preaches the word of God. 或者在我們如何好好地完結去堅持, 就是今年完結,明年的時候也都能夠繼續求神給我們, 可以為他作見證,去傳道.
[21:23] And secondly,Paul not only encourages Timothy with one thing to do, 但他也鼓勵他 with one thing not to do. 在這段聖經里提醒提摩泰, 有一樣東西要做,但是也都有一件事不好做的.
[21:37] 什麼呢? 就是說不要放棄. Keep your head in all situations. Enjoy hardship. Do the work of an evangelist.
[21:48] 在所有的這些處境當中, 我們盡你的所能, 忍受苦難, 作傳道的功夫. You see, life wasn't great for Timothy when Paul was writing this letter to him.
[22:01] 保羅寫給提摩泰, 提摩泰他當時的生命處境是不容易的. Not only was Timothy dealing with the struggles of leading a church in Ephesus, 不單止他作為以忽所教會的主任牧師那種困難, Ephesus was a wealthy, worldly, very large Roman city.
[22:21] 以忽所是當時羅馬的帝國裏面一個很重要, 很出名,很細族,但是又很有錢的城市.
[22:32] The chapters 2 and 3 earlier on in Timothy tell us how he was fighting false teachers and corrupt members of his church. Paul, who was his mentor and teacher, was also unfairly imprisoned.
[22:53] 但是寫信給他的屬靈的父親, 是他的屬靈的長者, 他自己也都處理很多,面對很多這些挑戰.
[23:04] Timothy may have been battling shame or enduring the mockery of others. 因為見到保羅,他經常都被拉去坐牢, 可能作提摩泰都覺得有些, 他是我屬靈父親,有些蒙獸, 也都看到保羅要忍受很多人的機潮.
[23:22] Maybe your 2025 has been similar. 或者過去一年,我們都曾經好像保羅或者提摩泰所面對過的. Not only is daily life difficult, 不單止每一日都很困局, Taking care of your family, Working hard in your job, 我們在工作里邊很賣力, 家庭里邊很多要照顧的情況.
[23:47] But you may also have had to deal with additional struggles. 可能因之外也有很多一些的掙扎. And unexpected bill? 突然間超過我其餘的要付的債.
[24:04] Declining half of a loved one? 因為我們身邊的人,我們所愛的人, 他們的身體一直衰殘. Or maybe a failed relationship.
[24:16] 或者一個破碎的關係. It may have caused you to question God, To wonder if He even cares. 或者我們一切叫我們去懷疑, 神啊,你是不是眷顧我們?
[24:28] It can all be just a little too much. 可能很多事情都叫我們很難面對. Still, just as Paul encourages Timothy, I think this is encouraging for us as well.
[24:40] 正如保羅如何提醒,鼓勵,提摩泰, 今日我相信神都鼓勵我們. Don't give up. 不要放棄. You see, Paul himself, he didn't have it easy either.
[24:54] 保羅呢,他自己都不是容易面對的. For the greater half of his life, Paul has traveled across much of the modern world at the time. 保羅在大部分的日子都經歷走遍當時的世界很多地方.
[25:12] He has been persecuted, mocked, and like we said, just thrown in prison. 他也都被迫迫,他經歷很多的困難, 也都被拉去坐牢,被被揮笑.
[25:24] As he writes this letter, he writes from the inside of a cold and lonely jail. 在他寫這封信的時候,他是寫在一個很冷的, 不知如何形容的一個,不是監牢, 差不多是一個洞來的而已.
[25:46] It's really sad. Later on in verse 16, he says, No one came to my support. Everyone deserted me. 特別在16節,這個更加叫他很難接受的,就是他重叛親利.
[26:00] But why did Paul go through all the suffering? 但為何他仍然去經歷這麼多這些困難? Why did he go through all this pain? 為何要這麼多這些傷痛呢? All of this, just so that Gentiles like you and me may come to know the works of Jesus Christ.
[26:17] 我作的所有的東西,讓今日你和我好志,就是這些外邦人可以聽到福音. 如果保羅沒有拒絕去接受這些苦難, 或者福音可能來不了這些眾多的外邦人那裡.
[26:46] God's plans for the world would still have been carried out. He doesn't need Paul. 但是神其實仍然可以用不同的方法,不同的人將他的救恩去傳遞的.
[26:58] 其實神不一定需要保羅的. But the way the gospel has reached different people in that day and age may have looked very different. 當時神對外邦人宣揚的那種計劃,可能那個策略不同.
[27:13] Without Paul, even the books of our Bible may have been different. 沒有了保羅,可能我們今天那本聖經都不同的,新約聖經. Paul says how his life has been poured out for Christ, a drink offering.
[27:28] 保羅說我們的生命被僵電了. However, Paul doesn't just do this for Christ. 但是保羅不只是自己是為耶穌而作的.
[27:41] He does this like Christ as well. 祂都是效法耶穌基督這樣去獻上. Like Christ. You see, Jesus himself was the one who endured the most torment.
[27:54] 祂是效法耶穌基督,因為耶穌基督都是一個仇苦的仆人. He was a suffering servant. Jesus was the innocent lamb. 祂是仇苦的仆人,是無罪的羔羊.
[28:05] The one who lived the perfect life, yet endured the pain of death. 祂是完完全全的一個完美的生命,但是祂是忍受上帝的審判這個重担.
[28:17] 祂從來沒有犯過罪,但是祂是為我們承擔罪的罪債. 如果你想想看誰人可以堅持到底,如何可以最艱難的時候面對很多苦難,為了耶穌基督的福音,我們就看耶穌的字了.
[28:50] 甚至於Paul,在哥倫多前書,都是這樣跟當時的教會說,你們效法我,正如我效法基督一樣.
[29:08] 祂是對我們今天坐在這裏,很多的弟兄姊妹,多年來,我們堅持,為了神的國,我們願意擺上在教會的福視。 多謝你,不要放棄。 聖經的英許,為了公義的冠冕,為你存留。 但是是為那些愛慕去顯現的人。 別放棄,讓我們繼續每天每日背起我們的十字架去跟隨耶穌。 別放棄,讓我們繼續每天每日背起我們的十字架去跟隨耶穌。 別放棄在一起,不要停止聚會。 我們繼續來學習,彼此遙述。 我們繼續來在耶穌基督裏面,無論喜樂,無論憂愁,我們一起去分享。 別放棄在教會,不要存到,去分享耶穌基督的救恩。
[30:29] Endure hardship and don't give up. For all the ones that have endured through 2025, thank you for all the work that you have done.
[30:52] Even here in PCBC, in the church, for the ones that work behind the scenes, cleaning dishes, welcoming brothers and sisters, teaching children, Thank you for your faithful service.
[31:20] For the ones that may be up here on stage, the worship teams, the MCs, as they stand on stage, To the leaders of departments or small groups of committees.
[32:07] Thank you for fighting the good fight. And to our pastors. Thank you for leading and guiding PCBC.
[32:17] For running this race and setting a good example. This is not an encouragement from me, but rather from the word of God.
[32:39] As Paul once again writes in his letter to Galatians in chapter 6, 9. In Galatians 6, 9. Let us not become weary in doing good. For at the proper time, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
[33:00] And lastly, if you haven't accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. If you haven't accepted Jesus Christ as your God, your God, your God, your God. I want to do what I preached about earlier.
[33:13] I urge you now. I want to do what I preached about earlier. I urge you now. I encourage you now. I encourage you now. Invite him into your heart. Confess your sins and declare that Jesus Christ.
[33:26] We are the risen King who has taken away the sins of this world. He is to for us to do the world.
[33:39] You too can enjoy life and life to the full. Both in this age and in the age to come.
[33:54] Feel free to come and speak to me after or any of the pastors if you want to know more. Church, 2025 is over in a few days.
[34:15] Have you had any thoughts about how to finish it well? I hope we can take away from Paul's letter today.
[34:31] To take the word seriously and preach the gospel. To do the word seriously and preach the word. With great patience and careful instruction, preach the word.
[34:43] We will be able to have that kind of忍耐, that kind of from the Lord's power to come and preach the word. To preach the word.
[34:55] And secondly, don't give up. And secondly, don't give up. Although your year may have been rough. Or in the past year, it may be difficult to face.
[35:06] And who knows, maybe 2026 will be rougher even still. Maybe in the past year, it may be difficult to face. It may be difficult to face.
[35:17] Endure. But we can keep in the church and keep in the church. Fight the good fight. Run the long race. Keep the faith.
[35:29] Keep the faith. Even if like Paul, everyone else around you has deserted you. Like保罗 that way,周围的人都离棄他. God is still on your side.
[35:40] Ask him for more strength, more grace, more peace, and I know he will give it to you.求神给我们更多的能力,更多的恩断,更多的平安.
[35:52] Paul's last few words in the letter to Timothy are these.最后保罗的几句的话. At my first offense, no one came to support me, but everyone deserted me.
[36:04] May it not be held against them, but the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me, the message might be fully proclaimed, and all the Gentiles might hear it.
[36:14] and I was delivered from the lion's mouth. The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory forever and ever.
[36:26] Amen.主必救我脱离諸般的凶惡,也必救我尽到他的天国,愿荣耀归給他,直到永永永永永.
